The island is the habitat of 1400 kinds of tropics and subtropics plants. It is also home to many wild animals. There is a island called birds island, about 3.9 nautical mile away from the main island, which is the natural reserve for migratory birds. There are relics of ancient cannon , office and national forest park o-n the island.
The climate is warm in the winter, and yet cool in the summer, thanks to a strong breeze that blows in from the sea. The average annual temperature is 21.5C (70.7F).

Nan'ao is the place where many marine migratory birds from other nations stop when they are flying to China. There are over 90 varieties of birds staying on the islands around the Nan'ao Island. Every year from June to September, the islands are filled with tens of thousands of birds, forming a spectacular sea of birds. The preservation zone is therefore called the 'Paradise of Migratory Birds'.
